Leona Lewis at the WMAs

This week I was hired to mix monitors for Leona Lewis at the World Music Awards, where she performed the song 'La La La' with producer Naughty Boy. The show was demanding with a very fast turnover of artists, this act alone requiring 8 ways of IEM. Other acts on the bill of this annual awards show, hosted in Monte Carlo, included Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus and Tinie Tempah.
Bo Kaspers Orkester Spring Tour

Bo Kaspers Orkester are a Grammis award winning jazz/pop combo from Sweden who released their first single in 1992. I joined their spring 2014 tour as monitor engineer with production supplied by Soundforce AB. In order to mix 44 inputs down for 7 musicians and 1 tech, a DiGiCo SD8 with SD-rack was supplied at monitors with a 10-way Sennheiser G3/G2 IEM system. FOH comprised of a DIGiCo SD8-24 with Lexicon 224 and although in most venues house PA was available, d&b V-Series PA was supplied when necessary.

2014 brings big changes. As of January, my wife and I have moved to Sweden, Stockholm to be precise. While this is a big life change for us, I will still be servicing my current clients, I am still available for work in the UK, and am just expanding the business into Europe!
Kim Wilde's Christmas Party!

The run up to christmas has seen me involved in a mini-tour with Kim Wilde (featuring Nik Kershaw) promoting her christmas album. The tour comprised of a warm-up show in Saasveld, Netherlands, followed by the O2 Academies in Bristol, Birmingham and London Shepherd's Bush. As monitor engineer, I looked after both artists, and carried a small control package from Capital Sound, including a DiGiCo SD8, 10-ways of Sennheiser G3 IEM and 4-ways of Shure UHF-R. I also utilised my own RME MADIface USB and MacBook Pro for virtual soundcheck.
Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited Autumn 2013

I just came back off the road as monitor/PA technician with Steve Hackett and the final leg of his Genesis Revisited Tour 2013. Over 2 weeks, it visited a number of venues around the UK including Birmingham Symphony Hall, O2 Academy Manchester and the Royal Albert Hall. The show was very well received and will go back out on the road next year. Capital Sound supplied a touring system of 24 Martin Audio W8LCs and 6 S218 sub-woofers, with a Yamaha CL5 at FOH and a Soundcraft Vi1 on monitors.

Again, I have had a varied September, with jobs ranging from FOH line array tech on Stage 3 at Shakedown festival in Brighton, the Wilde Summer Ball (a charity ball in aid of the Wilde Breast Cancer Fund) and monitors for DJ Yoda and the Transiberian March Orchestra at Bestival. I also mixed FOH and monitors for an 11-year old choir boy called Jack Topping who performed at a showcase for Universal Music and an appearance on the Alan Titchmarsh show.
Live By The Lake

The last 2 weeks have seen me looking after monitors and stage for the 'Live By The Lake' series of concerts at Kenwood House in Hampstead, North London. The concerts included a wide range of concerts from rock bands Keane and Suede to the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. An optocore network was used for the DiGiCo SD7 at FOH and 2 SD racks on stage, whilst sending MADI stems direct from the FOH console to an SD8 at monitors. Read more at http://tinyurl.com/oerrnbq.
Rewind All-Star Band

I mixed monitors for the house band at the Rewind festival in Perth over the weekend, including guest artists Tony Hadley, Belinda Carlisle, Nik Kershaw, Heather Small, Rick Astley, Jason Donovan and Kim Wilde. I will be working with them over the next 3 weeks with other artists including Marc Almond, Heaven 17, Odyssey, Chesney Hawkes, Go West and ABC. Capital Sound provided a flip-flop house system with 2 x Yamaha PM5Ds at monitors, Sennheiser 2000 IEMs, LE1500 wedges, 2 x DiGiCo SD8s at FOH and a Meyer Milo/Mica system.

The last couple of months have seen me undertaking various projects including RF Technician at the British Summertime Festival in Hyde Park, Monitor Engineer for Bill Wyman & The Rhythm Kings at Glastonbury, Stage Technician for Laura Mvula at Glastonbury, 2 arena shows with the Pet Shop Boys flying the brand new Nexo STM PA system, Monitor Technician for Bryan Adams at the Dorchester Hotel, Patch Master for The Legend Of Zelda at the Hammersmith Apollo and mixing FOH for JLS at a birthday party in Cheltenham. And there's lots more coming up!
Steve Hackett UK Tour

I have just returned from a short run around the UK with Steve Hackett. As monitor technician, I helped Steve's monitor engineer Richard Buckland with audio on stage, as well as assisting the FOH technician flying the PA. Capital Sound supplied a full system including a Soundcraft Vi1 on monitors, a Yamaha CL5 at FOH, Sennheiser G3 IEMs and a Meyer MICA PA system. The tour continues into Europe with just a control package.
