Rewind Festivals

Tuesday 18th August 2015
I looked after stage sound for the Rewind Festival's house band in Scotland and Cheshire again this year. Among the artists I mixed monitors for were Jimmy Somerville, Belinda Carlisle, Heather Small, The Selecter, Nik Kershaw, Kim Wilde, ABC, Bananarama, Chesney Hawkes, Hue & Cry and many many more. I used a Yamaha PM5D-RH, with a combination of Sennheiser 2000 series IEM and Martin Audio LE1500 wedges. The Rewind All-Star band is a busy and complex show which utilizes all 48 inputs (plus 2 stereo inputs) and all 24 mixes.

British Summer Time at Hyde Park

Tuesday 23rd June 2015
BST Hyde Park is over for another year, this time featuring world class artists including The Who, Blur, Taylor Swift and Kylie among others. I looked after monitors again, Capital Sound supplying a flip-flop control system with 2 x PM5Ds at monitors, 2 x Profiles at FOH, 2 x 48-way line systems in addition to Martin Audio LE1500 wedges and microphones as dictated by visiting engineers. This dual-setup allowed engineers to have a maximum amount of time on their board and a line-check to happen behind the drape before the band are rolled onto the stage. Yet again, a large Martin Audio MLA system was deployed which allowed a level of over 100dBA at FOH while maintaining strict off-site limits.

I am currently on tour with Il Divo, a multinational operatic pop group on their 2 month long autumn tour 'A Musical Affair'. Playing mostly arenas, the show has so far been through Scandinavia, Russia, Eastern Europe, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and is heading back to the UK in a few days time before finishing in Lisbon. I am looking after a Capital Sound supplied monitor system comprised of a DiGiCo SD10, 8x Sennheiser G3 IEMs, Martin Audio LE1500 wedges and W8LM flown side-fills.

The end of Festival Season 2014

Friday 5th September 2014
This year has seen me looking after monitors on no less than 7 UK festivals, including BST Hyde Park Great Oak Stage, Rewind (Perth, Henley-on-Thames and Chester), Field Day Main Stage (Victoria Park, London) and SW4 Main Stage (Clapham Common, London). While I love the challenges these gigs present, and have had the opportunity to work with some great bands and artists, I'm also looking forward to doing some gigs indoors for the rest of the year!

Leona Lewis at the WMAs

Monday 30th June 2014
This week I was hired to mix monitors for Leona Lewis at the World Music Awards, where she performed the song 'La La La' with producer Naughty Boy. The show was demanding with a very fast turnover of artists, this act alone requiring 8 ways of IEM. Other acts on the bill of this annual awards show, hosted in Monte Carlo, included Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus and Tinie Tempah.

Bo Kaspers Orkester Spring Tour

Tuesday 22nd April 2014
Bo Kaspers Orkester are a Grammis award winning jazz/pop combo from Sweden who released their first single in 1992. I joined their spring 2014 tour as monitor engineer with production supplied by Soundforce AB. In order to mix 44 inputs down for 7 musicians and 1 tech, a DiGiCo SD8 with SD-rack was supplied at monitors with a 10-way Sennheiser G3/G2 IEM system. FOH comprised of a DIGiCo SD8-24 with Lexicon 224 and although in most venues house PA was available, d&b V-Series PA was supplied when necessary.

Relocation

Monday 6th January 2014
2014 brings big changes. As of January, my wife and I have moved to Sweden, Stockholm to be precise. While this is a big life change for us, I will still be servicing my current clients, I am still available for work in the UK, and am just expanding the business into Europe!

Kim Wilde's Christmas Party!

Sunday 22nd December 2013
The run up to christmas has seen me involved in a mini-tour with Kim Wilde (featuring Nik Kershaw) promoting her christmas album. The tour comprised of a warm-up show in Saasveld, Netherlands, followed by the O2 Academies in Bristol, Birmingham and London Shepherd's Bush. As monitor engineer, I looked after both artists, and carried a small control package from Capital Sound, including a DiGiCo SD8, 10-ways of Sennheiser G3 IEM and 4-ways of Shure UHF-R. I also utilised my own RME MADIface USB and MacBook Pro for virtual soundcheck.

Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited Autumn 2013

Monday 4th November 2013
I just came back off the road as monitor/PA technician with Steve Hackett and the final leg of his Genesis Revisited Tour 2013. Over 2 weeks, it visited a number of venues around the UK including Birmingham Symphony Hall, O2 Academy Manchester and the Royal Albert Hall. The show was very well received and will go back out on the road next year. Capital Sound supplied a touring system of 24 Martin Audio W8LCs and 6 S218 sub-woofers, with a Yamaha CL5 at FOH and a Soundcraft Vi1 on monitors.

September 2013

Thursday 10th October 2013
Again, I have had a varied September, with jobs ranging from FOH line array tech on Stage 3 at Shakedown festival in Brighton, the Wilde Summer Ball (a charity ball in aid of the Wilde Breast Cancer Fund) and monitors for DJ Yoda and the Transiberian March Orchestra at Bestival. I also mixed FOH and monitors for an 11-year old choir boy called Jack Topping who performed at a showcase for Universal Music and an appearance on the Alan Titchmarsh show.
